Welcome back, ONA Mizzou!

By Nicole Garner

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? ONA Mizzou’s student leaders are ready for another semester and hope you are, too! After several weeks of downtime, you may be wondering how to get involved with ONA Mizzou this semester. But don’t worry -- there are many ways!

Follow ONA Mizzou social media
Do you want to know what the club is doing next? Follow ONA Mizzou on Twitter and like our Facebook page. Social media chair Andrew Gibson is also constantly scouring the Web for information about digital journalism, internships and online tools. He posts his findings in addition to club updates.

Once you follow, don’t forget to engage! ONA Mizzou is all about creating discussions and wants to hear from you.

Attend monthly meetings
ONA Mizzou meets once a month (sometimes twice – we’re looking at you, February!), always on Thursdays at 5 p.m.  Meetings last about an hour, meaning they’re easy to fit into your busy schedule. Each meeting has a theme, guest speakers and time for questions and networking. They’re great for learning something new and useful as well as meeting other ONA Mizzou-ers.

Join us on Feb. 2 for social media safety, Feb. 23 for resume and job-searching advice, March 15 for trends in online election coverage and April 12 to elect new ONA Mizzou student leaders!

Oh, and did we mention there are snacks?

Contribute to our blog
If you’re reading this post and are interested in online journalism, you’re equipped to contribute to the ONA Mizzou blog. Anyone can write for us, and no experience is required. Contact the ONA Mizzou student leaders (onamizzou@gmail.com) with a digital-journalism topic if you want a byline on our home page!

Are you fresh out of ideas but want to contribute? Or, do you need editing help? That's where the student leaders come in. All that's required is a desire to start blogging.

Join ONA Central
As always, the student leaders of ONA Mizzou want to remind you of our parent organization, the Online News Association. Becoming an official member of ONA opens the door to a variety of resources, including discounted rates to the annual ONA conference, networking opportunities and training. Plus, student members have discounted dues of $25.

We're looking forward to seeing you at our ONA Mizzou events this semester! The first meeting of 2012 will be Feb. 2 at 5 p.m.
